Sunflowers, Lemons, & Sunshine

Updated: Jul 20, 2022

Sunshine, pool days, cookouts, the beach...these are a few of my favorite things.

I love summer. In fact, it's my favorite season. Maybe one day I'll live somewhere it's summer all year round. But until then I simply enjoy making the most of the season each time it comes around. Which is why I enjoy building my summer wardrobe. And this season I am especially loving the trending patterns and prints, styles, and accessories with bold pops of color and sunny accessories. I know we're already well into summer now that we've passed the July 4th holiday, but there's still plenty of time for building your own stylish and fun summer wardrobe. In this blog I'm going to share some of my favorite trends. I'd love to know which one is your favorite?

In my last blog I shared patterns that were trending this spring. A few of those have carried over and are still big this season - gingham & tropical florals. You'll see those two prints everywhere from shirts, dresses, and pants to shoes and bathing suits. I'm excited to wear pieces in both gingham & tropical floral this season. In fact, I just ordered a tropical floral jumpsuit that I'm planning to wear for the first time this weekend. Back in May I picked up a sun dress with lemons all over it because it made me happy when I saw it. And guess what? That's one of the other patterns you'll see this season in addition to checks, watercolor, and sunflowers. Seeing pieces in these prints makes me think of sunshine and brings a smile to my face. Note: When adding these patterns to your summer wardrobe make sure you know your best colors and keep scale in mind. Need help? After you fill your closet with fabulous pieces it's time to accessorize. Just as the prints & patterns are bold, bright, and sunny you'll see the same trend continuing into jewelry, handbags, and shoes. Continuing from last season, chunky chain pieces, colorful beaded baubles and pearls continue to be on-trend this summer. Add some pizzazz to your warm-weather wardrobe with a straw hat, silky scarf, or a fabulous pair of cat-eye sunglasses. Looking to add a stylish up-to-date bag to your collection this season? There's plenty of choices to be on-trend and find one that fits both your style personality and budget. Look for bags in vibrant colors and unique styles. Statement totes are big this year, especially ones with designer logos. Looking for something with a beachy vibe? Try a woven bag in raffia, crochet, or straw. Need a more polished bag for work? Small structured bags are a great option. And ruched bags are a great way to add a trendy accessory. Choose a pop of color or go with your favorite neutral. I have a hot pink ruched bag that is so fun! Next I'm on the hunt for a statement tote.

Lastly, our outfit is not complete without the perfect pair of shoes. Show off those perfect pedicures in trendy sandals. There are quite a few style to choose from - woven, quilted, and the "naked" sandal. This sandal is perfect for a dressy outfit with thin straps & a delicate heel. Or stand tall in comfort wedges, especially those with a rubber sole bottom and you'll be comfortable and trendy. If sandals or heels are not your thing try taking the spring trend of white sneakers and find one with a fun pop of color.

No matter which of these trends you incorporate into your summer wardrobe, have fun adding some bold color and a little sunshine to your closet!
